Hurley brothers coaching their teams into NCAA contention

The Hurley brothers are three victories away from reaching the NCAA Tournament as coaches.

Former Duke guard Bobby Hurley has Buffalo in the Mid-American Conference championship game after the Bulls beat Akron 68-59 on Friday night in Cleveland. Buffalo (22-9), which has never reached the NCAA Ttournament, faces top-seeded Central Michigan on Saturday night with an automatic bid on the line.

Hurley’s younger brother, Dan, led Rhode Island to a 71-58 victory against George Washington in the Atlantic 10 quarterfinals Friday night in New York. The Rams meet Dayton in the semifinals Saturday at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

And both Hurleys got technical fouls for losing their tempers with officials Friday night, too.
