SALISBURY, NC — Police are waiting to decide whether a driver should be charged or ticketed after driving through a local pharmacy Tuesday.

The driver drove through the Innes Street Drug Store and pinned a customer between the SUV and a shelf.

“She was basically just saying ‘Jesus, help me’,” said Quson Brown.

Brown is a police cadet and works inside the pharmacy.

He watched as crews patched the store front Tuesday. Only minutes earlier, he saw the driver and two passengers slam through the glass.

“I was yelling to everyone get down and move!” said Brown.

He says the customer couldn’t outrun the SUV.

“It was pretty chaotic,” said Austin Addis. “People in the store came out here, [saying] ‘What’s going on? What’s going on?'”

The driver, police say, was trying to back out of the parking spot in front of the pharmacy when she accidentally put the car in drive and couldn’t stop.

“The driver, she was in shock,” said Brown. “She wanted to move the car. She wanted to help the person that was there.”

Onlookers warned her not to move the SUV so as to not injure the victim any further.

For five minutes Brown and others stayed with the victim until medics arrived to free her.

“All we could do is help her clean up some cuts on her face and just comfort her.”

Brown says once loose, her leg was obviously injured. Police say, surprisingly, her injuries were not life-threatening.

Once the investigation is over, police will decide whether to file charges or ticket the driver. Right now, police say it looks like an accident.
