Middle Tennessee coach Rick Insell jokes he didn’t realize he had so many family and friends until he and his son got a second chance at women’s basketball history.
He is expecting a big crowd Thursday night when his Blue Raiders host son Matt and the Mississippi Rebels in the third round of the Women’s National Invitation Tournament.
Fathers coaching against sons is nothing new in men’s basketball, and it is believed that when the Insells met in the Blue Raiders’ 71-65 victory over Ole Miss 71-65 in November it was the first father-son coaching matchup in Division I women’s basketball.
Now the WNIT gives son another crack at his dad.
