CHARLOTTE, NC — Around 2AM Monday morning, a BMW traveling north on I-77 rear ended a tractor trailer around mile marker 7 at Clanton Rd.
The driver and two passengers in the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene, while the driver of the semi-truck was unharmed. Troopers at the scene say the driver was speeding, going at least 100 mph, and do not believe weather played a factor in the accident.
Crews had to use a crane in order to lift the trailer of the truck off of the car. Blocked lanes from the accident slowed traffic for a couple hours before the scene was finally cleared.
