UNION COUNTY, N.C. –  For the second year in a row, the  Sun Valley High School Navy Junior ROTC has been selected to travel to Hawaii to march in their Pearl Harbor Day Parade.  They so impressed the organizers of the parade last year that the cadets were asked to return for this year’s parade.  For some of these kids this is the first time on the trip, but for others, they are lucky enough to be making this trip for the second time.

Wilson talked with some of the kids that got to go last year and found out how they felt about the trip and the opportunity to talk with the veterans that they met on their trip.  He had a great time with the kids when he put together his own nacho eating contest.  Amazing how many nachos a high school kid can put away at 8am in the morning!

This year, they  want to take almost 50 cadets with them, twice as many as they were able to take with them last year, so they are working hard to raise funds to support their trip.  There were be a lot of events going on in Union County to help these kids travel to Hawaii.

On Wednesday, May, 6th when customers visit Moe’s at Indian Trail, 10% of all items purchased will be donated to the group.  Events held at Sun Valley High school include a 5K Walk/Run that will be held on Saturday, May 16th and a  spaghetti dinner on Friday, May 22nd.  There will also be car washes held in different locations around the county almost every weekend in May.  For more information on the group and all of the fundraising events they will be having, click HERE.

You can also help out the Sun Valley NJROTC by donating on their GoFundMe page at  http://www.gofundme.com/sunvalleynjrotc.

The cadets performed some of their drills for Wilson and talked with him about why they are part of the impressive group of young adults.
