MONROE, NC — Just after midnight Saturday morning, Monroe Police received a call about a gunshot victim in the area of Maurice Street and Green Street.
While looking for the victim, police then received a call from CMC Union about a patient with multiple gunshot wounds.
The patient was identified as Steven Clifton Smith, 28, and investigators determined that he was shot multiple times at 326 E. Green Street. Smith was airlifted to CMC Main in critical condition but was not able to recover.
The investigation is still ongoing, and officials are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers at (704)283-5600 or the Monroe Police Department at (704)282-4700.
