UPDATE: A statement from the York School District 1 says that an exception will be made for the American flag to be flown on vehicles as long as it does not pose a hazard.
The statement also said the decision was made “due to the outstanding display of patriotism through peaceful demonstration.”
YORK, SC — Students, community members, and veterans are protesting outside of York Comprehensive High School today.
The protests are in response to a student, Peyton Robinson, being told to remove the American and POW flags he was flying in the bed of his truck.
Safety concerns are the reasons being cited for the removal, but South Carolina Highway Patrol says they rode by the school and saw no violation with the flags taking place. The Chief of Police for the City of York, Andy Robinson, also said they have had no problems with the flags on their end.
We are reaching out to the York School District and school officials, but have not been able to reach them.
We are following this story and will continue to bring updates as it develops, and tune in tonight for WCCB News at 10pm for the complete story.
