Officer Who Delivered Son News of Dead Parents Attends His Graduation

ORANGE , T.X. — Although police officers frequently make the news in a bad way, the story of a Texas police officer and a high school graduate has been touching the hearts of many.

Officer Eric Ellison was one of the first responders to an accident where Riley and Emily Portie were struck off their motorcycle by a drunk driver and killed. When someone had to deliver the news, Ellison stepped up and went to their home, finding their son, Kazzie, home alone.

Kazzie was prepared to graduate high school in under a week and he was unsure of what he was going to do.

“You’re going to walk!”  Ellison said. “Your mom and dad will have front row seats looking down from heaven, and I’ll stand in their place. I’ve got your back.”

Sure enough, Ellison stood in their place and even embraced Kazzie after receiving his diploma. According to Buzzfeed, the auditorium gave a heartwarming standing ovation.

The story has since gone viral on social media, mostly focusing on the kindness of the officer. However, Ellison wants to shift the emphasis to Kazzie.

Ellison posted on his Facebook page, “This was all about Kazzie and his day to shine.”
