CHARLOTTE, N. C. –  Kids helping kids is always a great thing. Today Wilson was talking with teachers at Elon Park Elementary school about how their 2nd and 3rd grade students have been raising funds as part of their Pennies for Patients program.  Pennies for Patients is a program with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society for young survivors of blood cancer.

The students at Elon Park have been participating in the program for years and have raised thousands of dollars for the program by bringing in bags, buckets and piggy banks full of change. This year Elon Park placed 1st in North Carolina and was ranked in the top 100 schools in the country when they raised almost $10,000 for the program.

Mrs. Walker, a teacher at Elon Park says that the student’s participation is personal for her because her grandson, Alex, was diagnosed with pediatric cancer.   Alex’s mom, Liz talked about how much the Pennies for Patients program and the kids participation means to her family.

Wilson had a lot of fun with the kids when he let the kids behind the mic to talk about anything they wanted to.  And boy, did they go crazy and start talking!
