SALISBURY, NC — Police and family are still searching for the pregnant mother who vanished from her Salisbury home Tuesday.
Carry Bradshaw-Crowther disappeared the day of her scheduled C-section. The 49-year-old’s baby girl is due in two weeks. A high-risk pregnancy coupled with a connective tissue disorder means a natural child birth could be deadly.
“I love her, and we need her, and we want her home,” said Lauren Lusk.
Three days ago, Lusk left the Salisbury home to get gas before taking the mother in for the C-section. When she returned, she says her mother was gone and so was her mother’s van.
“All those thoughts went through my head: that she wrecked, somebody broke into the house, somebody took her,” said Luck.
She immediately called the hospital. Doctors said she never showed up. Police sent out alerts.
Investigators traced her steps starting at 5:20 that Tuesday morning. Someone made a phone call from Bradshaw-Crowther’s cell phone in a wooded area blocks from her home on West Colonial Drive.
Then, Lusk says someone turned off the phone.
The next lead: family says Bradshaw-Crowther used her credit card at a Shell gas station in Statesville.
Police gathered surveillance footage to confirm she was there.
Across the street from the gas station, Brookewood Inn workers says she stayed there Tuesday night when she went missing.
The clerk tells WCCB Charlotte that the mother-to-be checked out a room alone. He says she seemed happy when she left before 1:00 the next day.
“I love her, and I don’t understand any of this. It doesn’t make sense,” said Lusk. “I just want to hold her again, to know I need to touch her again.”
Police says she was driving a 2001 Mazda MPV van, champagne in color. The vehicle has an unknown expired Kansas tag.
Family says it’s possible she’s heading to Linville Gorge.
