North Carolina to Test Online Driver’s License Renewals

RALEIGH, N.C. — Governor McCrory announced yesterday that North Carolina will be implementing a testing phase to renew driver’s licenses online.

The online renewal process will provide greater convenience for renewing driver’s licenses and will decrease waiting times at DMVs across the state.

As part of this change, the NCDMV has changed the design of the driver’s licenses in order to make it more difficult to counterfeit IDs and to commit identity fraud. The licenses will also be harder to crack and a new coated substance will prevent fading.

The online renewal process will be available to driver’s every other time they renew their license and should only take a few minutes.

McCrory commented, “This new service is a major milestone in our continued efforts to improve customer service online and in our DMV offices throughout the state, making it faster, easier and more convenient for people to complete their business and get back to their busy lives.”
