Playing the back nine first, he shot a 2-under 32 to stand 4-under for the tournament. He was 6-under after the 17th hole but took a double bogey on the 18th hole before shooting a birdie on No. 1 to stand 5-under after 12 holes of play.
TORONTO (AP) β Pitcher R.A. Dickey of the Blue Jays has been placed on the bereavement list following his father’s death. Harry Lee Dickey died Tuesday at the age of 63. R.A. Dickey went 7 1/3 innings and allowed one run in Toronto’s 7-1 home victory last night over the New York Mets.
CHICAGO (AP) β Forward Taj (tahj) Gibson of The Bulls has undergone arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle. The club says he will need about four months to resume full basketball activities, putting his status for training camp and even the start of the season in jeopardy.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) β Roy Williams has a new contract to coach basketball at the University of North Carolina. He and the school have agreed on a two-year extension that runs through the 2019-20 season.
PARIS (AP) β Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (SAHNG’-guh) may not be able to play in Wimbledon. The world’s 12th-ranked player has pulled out of the Nottingham Open with an abdominal injury. He has not played since his semifinal loss to Stan Wawrinka (vah-VRINK’-ah) at the French Open, where he was injured.
