CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) β€” Monte Lee, who coached College of Charleston for seven seasons, has been hired as the new baseball coach at Clemson. College of Charleston appeared in the NCAA Tournament four times under Lee, who had a 276-145 record at the school. He replaces Jack Leggett, who was fired June 4 after Clemson’s second straight 0-2 appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) β€” Ron Rivera says the Panthers are well ahead of where they were last season in terms of preparation largely because of the health of quarterback Cam Newton. Newton participated in all offseason practices and has taken “some really big steps,” according to Carolina’s fifth-year coach.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) β€” The Panthers have announced they’ll have joint training camp practices with the Miami Dolphins this summer. The practices are scheduled for Aug. 19 and 20 at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, in advance of the Dolphins-Panthers preseason game in Charlotte on Aug. 22.

HONOLULU (AP) β€” The University of North Carolina men’s basketball team is returning to Honolulu for a game against Hawaii. The perennial powerhouse and Hawaii have agreed to a play a 2016 game in Honolulu. The game will be the fifth between the two schools. North Carolina has won four.
