VATICAN CITY (AP) β€” Pope Francis is criticizing environmentalists who show concern for preserving nature but not for the human lives lost to abortion.

In the encyclical released today, Francis says human beings, their faith and the environment are all part of a single integral ecology.

He asks, “How can we genuinely teach the importance of concern for other vulnerable beings, however troublesome or inconvenient they may be, if we fail to protect a human embryo, even when its presence is uncomfortable and creates difficulties?”

In the encyclical, Francis accepts as fact that the world is getting warmer and that human activity is mostly to blame. Citing Scripture and his predecessors, the pope urges people of every faith and even no faith to save God’s creation.

He calls for a cultural revolution to correct an economic system in which he says the rich exploit the poor, turning Earth into an “immense pile of filth.”
