UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. (AP) β Jordan Spieth (speeth) has become just the fourth golfer since 1960 to win the Masters and U.S. Open in the same year. Spieth birdied the final hole for a 1-under 69 and a 5-under total, one stroke ahead of Dustin Johnson and Louis Oosthuizen (WUHST’-hy-zehn). Johnson had a 12-foot putt for eagle on the final hole to win the tournament, but he three-putted for par to finish in a second-place tie at Chambers Bay.
DETROIT (AP) β J.D. Martinez was the hitting star as the Detroit Tigers crushed the New York Yankees 12-4 to avoid a three-game sweep. Martinez homered three times and had six RBIs while the Tigers were building a 12-2 lead. Victor Martinez homered and had four RBIs as the Tigers enjoyed a laugher after being outscored 21-5 in the first two games of the series.

Substitute Kyah (KY’-uh) Simon scored off a rebound in the 80th minute to lift Australia to its first Women’s World Cup knockout win, a 1-0 upset of Brazil. Marie Laure Delie scored twice as France beat South Korea 3-0 before Josee Belanger (beh-LAHN’-zhay) tallied in the 52nd minute to lift Canada over Switzerland 1-0.
UNDATED (AP) β Roger Federer and Andy Murray tuned up for Wimbledon with grass court tournament wins. Federer beat Italy’s Andreas Seppi 7-6, 6-4 to claim his record eighth Gerry Weber Open title. Murray had to work overtime on Sunday to get his fourth title at the Queen’s Club tournament, knocking off Viktor Troicki in the rain-delayed semifinal before posting a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Kevin Anderson.
SPEILBERG, Austria (AP) β Nico Rosberg overtook pole sitter Lewis Hamilton on the first turn and went on to win the Austrian Grand Prix. Hamilton finished second. Rosberg’s third win this season took his career tally to 11, and cut Hamilton’s overall lead to 10 points.
