CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) β€” People familiar with the situation say the Charlotte Hornets won the bid to host the NBA All-Star game in 2017. The Hornets have scheduled a news conference for today that will include NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and team owner Michael Jordan.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) β€” Hornets owner Michael Jordan along with Fox SportsSouth donated $200,000 to Central Piedmont Community College’s veterans employment fund. Jordan made the announcement yesterday during the team’s annual “Swarm to Serve” day of service. The grant is earmarked for paid internships for military veterans.

SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) β€” A Wofford basketball player has drowned. The school says rising junior Jeremiah Tate died early yesterday in Lake Wylie near Charlotte, North Carolina. A York County, South Carolina sheriff’s office report states Tate and another man jumped from a bridge to swim, but Tate “had trouble swimming and kept sinking” when the other man tried to help.

NEW YORK (AP) β€” The regional round schedule for the 2K Classic benefiting Wounded Warrior Project has been finalized. The field features national champion Duke, national runner-up Wisconsin, Georgetown and VCU. These teams will each host two regional round games and will play at Madison Square Garden in the championship rounds on Nov. 20 and 22.
