Virginia’s Cavaliers kept their hopes alive last night with a 3-0 win over defending champion Vanderbilt. Freshman Adam Haseley and Josh Sborz combined on a seven-hitter for the Cavaliers.
NEW YORK (AP) β The Tom Brady appeal hearing took place yesterday and lasted 10 hours. He and commissioner Roger Goodell (guh-DEHL’) met face to face, with the help of attorneys, at the NFL headquarters in New York City. There is no timetable as to when a ruling will be announced.
LAS VEGAS (AP) β NHL overtime periods could have more open ice this season. The league’s general managers and the NHL Players’ Association have agreed to change the NHL’s regular-season overtime period from four-on-four hockey to three-on-three. The Board of Governors still must approve the change today when it meets in Las Vegas.
LONDON (AP) β The seedings for Wimbledon have been announced and to nobody’s surprise the top seeds are Novak Djokovic (NOH’-vak JOH’-kuh-vich) and Serena Williams. Two-time champion Rafael Nadal (rah-fay-ehl nah-DAHL’) was seeded No. 10, his lowest seeding ever at the All England Club.
ST. ANDREWS, Scotland (AP) β The British Open champion at St. Andrews next month will win $1.8 million, an increase of $275,000 from 2014. The British Open starts on July 16. Rory McIlroy is the defending champion.
