LONDON (AP) β€” Serena Williams is the champion at Wimbledon. She outplayed Spain’s Garbine Muguruza (gahr-BEEN’-yeh moo-guh-ROO-zuh) to win the title earlier today 6-4, 6-4. Williams has now won six times at the All England Club and has 21 Grand Slam titles.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) β€” The Carolina Hurricanes have signed first-round draft pick Noah Hanifin to a three-year, entry-level contract. The Hurricanes selected the 18-year-old with the No. 5 overall pick in last month’s draft. He had five goals and 18 assists in 37 games as a freshman at Boston College this past season.

PITTSBURGH (AP) β€” The Pirates and Cardinals continue their four-game series in Pittsburgh tonight. They’ve split the first two games and the Cardinals lead the Pirates by 4 1/2 games in the National League Central. The Bucs won last night with Gerrit Cole getting his 13th win of the season.

SPARTA, Ky. (AP) β€” The 400-mile Sprint Cup race at Kentucky Speedway is tonight in Sparta, Kentucky. The pole sitter is Kyle Larson. Brad Keselowski starts from the No. 2 spot with Jeff Gordon third.

FOUGERES, France (AP) β€” France’s Alexis Vuillermoz won today’s eighth stage of the Tour de France. Ireland’s Danile Martin was second. The overall leader is Britain’s Chris Froome.
