SARAJEVO, Bosnia-Herzegovina (AP) β Milan’s La Scala Philharmonic Orchestra has performed a concert in Sarajevo that aims to tell Bosnians that the era of conflicts is over and their future is in Europe.
Sunday’s concert comes a day after the 20th anniversary commemorations of the Srebrenica massacre was marred by an attack on Serbia’s prime minister.
Bosnians heard Handel, Mozart and Pergolesi performed at the Sarajevo National Theater and also on screens in front of a mosque, a Serbian Orthodox church, a Catholic cathedral and a synagogue.
Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni said Italy organized the concert to give Bosnians a hopeful message that their future is a peaceful one in Europe.
Bosnian Serbs killed 8,000 Muslim men in Srebrenica. Bosnian Muslims pelted Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic with rocks during Saturday’s anniversary ceremonies.
