Scherzer allows 4 hits as Nationals beat Orioles 3-2
BALTIMORE (AP) β Max Scherzer ended his impressive first half with another dominant performance, taking a three-hitter into the ninth inning to lead the Washington Nationals to a 3-2 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday.
Yunel Escobar had three hits and scored a run for the Nationals, who reached the All-Star break in first place in the NL East after taking two of three from their neighboring rivals.
Scherzer was one out away from his fourth complete game when Adam Jones hit his second homer of the game. Drew Storen entered and struck out Chris Davis to earn his 27th save.
Scherzer (10-7) allowed four hits, struck out seven and walked none. He retired 14 straight after allowing a first-inning homer to Jones.

Tulowitzki homers as Rockies sweep Braves, 11-3
DENVER (AP) β All-Star Troy Tulowitzki homered, Charlie Blackmon had three hits and drove in four runs and the Colorado Rockies beat the Atlanta Braves 11-3 on Sunday to complete a four-game sweep.
Drew Stubbs also went deep for the Rockies, who took four from Atlanta for the first time in team history.
Tulowitzki was chosen as an injury replacement to the NL All-Star team on Saturday, right after his 21-game hitting streak ended. He started another one with a three-run homer in the sixth off reliever Dave Carpenter.
Blackmon did his damage against Atlanta starter Alex Wood (6-6). His two-run single in the second gave Colorado a 3-0 lead and his second two-RBI single came two batters before Tulowitzki’s 10th home run.
Chad Bettis (5-4) got the win.

McCoughtry scores 32 in Dream’s 84-76 win over Liberty
ATLANTA (AP) β Angel McCoughtry scored 32 points and Atlanta survived a third-quarter collapse to pull out an 84-76 victory over the New York Liberty on Sunday.
The victory was the first for Atlanta (6-7) in three meetings with the Liberty this season and the first in six matchups against New York, which had a three-game winning streak end.
McCoughtry hit 12 of 19 free throws in a game that featured 70 attempts. McCoughtry has scored in double figures in every game this season and 19 in a row overall. Rookie Cierra Burdick added 12 points, a career-high, as did Sydney Carter, making her first start.
After trailing since the first quarter, Tina Charles’ four straight points put the Liberty (7-5) in front 69-67 with 5:47 remaining. But Atlanta bounced back and the Dream finished with a 9-2 run over the final three minutes to secure the win.

Martin Piller wins Web.com Tour’s Boise Open
BOISE, Idaho (AP) β Martin Piller completed a wire-to-wire victory Sunday in the Boise Open for his fourth career Web.com Tour title.
Piller shot a 4-under 67 at Hillcrest Country Club for a 28-under 256 total, the second-lowest 72-hole score in Web.com Tour history and the third-best mark in relation to par.
Steve Wheatcroft set the record of 255 in the 2011 Prince George’s County Open, finishing at 29 under, and Daniel Chopra was 30 under on a par-72 course in the 2004 Henrico County Open.
Piller broke the tournament mark of 24-under 260 set last year by playoff winner Wheatcroft and Steven Alker. The 29-year-old Dallas player won by six strokes to tie the event record.
Piller earned $144,000 to jump from 52nd to fourth on the money list with $198,852, enough to earn a PGA Tour card next season. His wife, Gerina Piller, is an LPGA Tour player.
The former Texas A&M star opened with rounds of 61, 63 and 65 to break the 54-hole record at 189 and match the mark for relation to par at 24 under.
