CHARLOTTE, NC — Hundreds of local families will be bringing home a healthy meal thanks to a large donation to Second Harvest Food Bank.

United Healthcare donated $5,000 to pay for nearly 800 backpacks filled with healthy, non-perishable foods.  They will also fill 12 coolers with fruits and veggies, making sure families are still receiving help in the summertime.

“We know when our children are away from school at home all summer it’s very difficult many times for them and family to be able to access food in general,” said United Healthcare VP Anita Bachman.

The backpacks and coolers will feed families in 14 local counties.
