North Carolina Fire Captain Found Dead

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Fire Captain James Hicks was found dead yesterday morning after going into a working structure fire the night before. He was part of an interior attack inside of the burning structure for nearly five minutes.

Hicks worked for the North Carolina Air National Guard (NCANG) Fire Emergency Services for nearly five years after working for the Concord Fire and Safety since 2001. Hicks dedicated 15 years of his life to protecting the safety of North Carolina citizens.

Captain Hicks was actively involved in several aspects of the Fire Emergency Services and played a key role in training Aircraft Rescue throughout the state as a Fire Instructor for Cleveland County Community College.

Captain Hicks was the first member of the NCANG Fire Emergency Services to pass away in the line of duty. The cause of death is currently undetermined and will be discovered upon completion of his autopsy.
