Rock Hill Woman Accused Of Hiding Pregnancy, Burying Child In Backyard

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Police say a Rock Hill woman hid her pregnancy from her family and buried her child in her backyard after he died.

Tara Ostrowski, 37, was arrested Tuesday after an autopsy ruled the baby’s death a homicide.

Police received a tip from an anonymous informant and an investigation was launched.

Investigators say Ostrowski gave birth to the child at her home in May.  The baby was allegedly alive for several minutes but became unresponsive.

Once Ostrowski was confronted about the charges, police say she admitted to the allegations and showed investigators where she buried the body.

Police also say Ostrowski used drugs while she was pregnant and a toxicology report showed the baby tested positive for hydrocodone and methamphetamine.

Ostrowski has been charged with unlawful conduct toward a child.  More charges could be filed in the case.
