Deputies Search for Men Who Attacked 72-Year-Old

YORK COUNTY, SC — Sheriff’s Deputies are searching for two armed men after an elderly man was attacked in his Clover home. The suspects beat a 72-year-old man, then went after his 61-year-old friend Monday afternoon.
Police say the 72-year-old opened the door to his home, and a stranger inside knocked him out. Another man threw something over his head so he could not see.
“They were in there waiting on him, and for that to happen to anybody is just ridiculous,” said the woman who called 911 after the attack.
She asked WCCB Charlotte to hide her identity in fear of the suspects. She showed up as the robbers were speeding off from the victim’s home. Police say the men she saw just broke into the man’s home. When he returned from a day of golfing, police say they began attacking him.
They forced him to open his gun safe, stole his pistol, ripped phone jacks out of his walls so he couldn’t call for help. Anytime he tried to take off the hood covering his eyes, they pistol whipped him. The incident report says he told investigators he was beaten so much, “…he thought he was gong to die.”
“I think their intentions were to kill him,” said the 911 caller.
Instead, the victim’s friend pulled up in the driveway. The robbers came after him, repeatedly beating him in the head with the gun.
According to investigators, the suspects tried to get the men into the trunk of the homeowner’s car. They refused. The home invaders eventually took off and sped off down Ridge Road.
The woman who passed saw the homeowner’s friend covered in blood and called 911. Neighbors say it was an eerie scene.
“Wherever I’m at, I got a gun waiting on somebody,” said Larry Stewart.
The victims now have bruises, cuts. The homeowner’s friend has a broken eye socket, according to witnesses.
Police found the homeowner’s stolen car abandoned in Gastonia. No sign of the attackers.
