Second Child Prostitution Bust in CLT in One Week

CHARLOTTE, NC — We are learning new details in the second human trafficking bust in Charlotte in a week.
Thursday 28-year-old Derrick Evans saw a judge for the first time since police arrested him for selling a 14-year-old girl for sex.
Officers also arrested Kiandra Stoudemire for promoting prostitution of a child.
That makes four arrests for selling children for sex in seven days.
It’s a number victim advocate Lanie George sees as a good thing.
“We’re bringing attention to it, and we’re saying no more,” said George. “And really, this is a community problem. This is happened right under our noses.”
According to arrest warrants, investigators say Evans turned the 14-year-old Hickory teen into a sex slave, selling her to men at a Charlotte hotel room.
CMPD has not released the location yet.
A similar scenario played out last Thursday when police arrested Terrell Nelson and Nkosazana Adebamgbe.
“It’s almost always somebody that they know, somebody they’ve befriended,” said George.
Officers are on to the game.
Last month, WCCB Charlotte confronted managers at a former Red Roof Inn near the airport where feds say pimps sold teens repeatedly for sex.

George escaped a childhood of prostitution herself before creating a nonprofit, Redeeming Joy, for victims.
She says in these cases, many girls meet the pimps online, and are often living at home with parents when they start selling sex.
“Tell our parents that we have a responsibility to be looking at everything on their social media, their phones,” said George.
WCCB Charlotte checked a local prostitution website.
A number connected with Evans’ warrant is linked to at least four prostitutes, meaning more charges could be in his future.
He now faces a charge of Human Trafficking, Profiting from Prostitution and Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile.
Stoudemire faces a charge of Promoting Prostitution of a Minor and Contributing to Delinquency of a Juvenile.
