LAKE WYLIE, N.C. – The students at Lake Wylie Elementary School are learning what it is all about to be a leader and take a stand against bullies. The school just wrapped up their anti-bullying month at the school. Wilson talked with teachers and counselors about their school’s culture and with the students about the school and their favorite classes.
After seeing the idea on YouTube, Rebecca Fennel, a 4th grade teacher at the school, along with her husband, on their own time built a “buddy bench” for the school playground. When kids feel lonely or sad and need a friend to talk with, they can sit on the bench where other students can stop by to talk or ask them to join them to play.
Because of her hard work and dedication to her students, Mrs. Fennel was surprised by Wilson when she was awarded a $500 gift card from American Express as his first “Wilson’s Moment of Good” campaign. Mrs. Fennel will be able to use the card to continue her good work with the students as they further their anti-bullying message.
“Wilson’s Moment of Good” is a partnership with Salsarita’s Caring Cantina to recognize people that have gone above and beyond…you never know when Wilson might do it again…stay tuned and do good!”
Salsarita’s Caring Cantina was created to help families fight homelessness. The Caring Cantina works through the community with volunteers and partners with fundraising for non-for-profits to help families overcome financial issues causing homelessness.
