Cleaning Company Owner Charged with Stealing from Elderly
MATTHEWS, NC — The owner of a house keeping company will be in court next month after Matthews police arrested her for stealing form residents of a retirement home.
Twenty-one pieces of jewelry top the list of items police say Shaun Provost stole from apartments at Plantation Estates. That included class rings, a wedding ring and bracelets from loved ones no longer alive.
“It makes you angry to think somebody would brazenly go in your apartment and take!” said one victim’s friend, Reita Spence.
Provost owns Shaun’s Cleaning Service, and a couple says they hired her to work for them last year. That’s when police say she started stealing from residents up until October.
“The maintenance crew, give them credit,” said Spence. “They noticed that she was in all the buildings and she was not supposed to be in all the buildings. So they reported her.”
WCCB Charlotte stopped at Provost’s home to ask why she admittedly targeted the elderly retirees. No one came to the door. We called her business, but no one has returned messages.
Plantation Estate guards won’t let her back inside now. A spokesperson tells WCCB that managers sent residents letters warning them to report any suspicious people.
Police recovered some of the jewelry. Victims won’t get that back until the case is closed.
