Authorities say he entered the Kings Foods and Meats Bazaar wearing a motorcycle helmet and a sweater covering his mouth and walked right up to the clerk demanding cash.

The boy was caught and disarmed by the store clerk and co-worker and later admitted to police he had stolen the gun from his mother’s purse.

He was charged with attempted armed robbery with a firearm and aggravated assault but the state is not pressing charges.

The boy has been ordered to stay away from the store and must attend a court-mandated diversion program. The mother has promised to keep her gun locked away in a safe.
