Officials Say Dozens Of Students At Charlotte School Have Symptoms Of Norovirus

UPDATE:  Metro School will be closed Friday due to the amount of students who have symptoms of Norovirus.

The school sent a letter to parents saying: “CMS brought in a qualified professional contractor yesterday to thoroughly clean and disinfect the entire school and all buses in accordance with Health Department guidelines.  As an additional proactive measure, we will close school tomorrow to allow an additional thorough cleansing and disinfecting of all areas of the school.”

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Health officials say up to 70 students at a local school have symptoms related to Norovirus.

Officials say up to 70 students at Metro School in Uptown Charlotte are experiencing symptoms related to the virus.  Sixty-three students tested positive for the virus.  Another seven students were sent home from school Thursday with similar symptoms.

Norovirus is a very contagious virus.  You can get Norovirus from an infected person, contaminated food or water, or by touching contaminated surfaces.

The virus causes your stomach or intestines or both to get inflamed.  This leads you to have stomach pain, nausea, diarrhea and vomiting.  Some people may also experience fever, headaches and body aches.
