Police: Lincolnton Man Arrested For Cashing Elderly Relative’s Checks

Lincolnton, N.C. —  A Lincolnton man is facing charges after police say he cashed his elderly relative’s checks.

Joshua Gene Hoyle was charged with two counts of obtaining property by false pretense on Thursday.

According to the press release, Hoyle stole personal checks from an elderly relative in Cleveland County and then passed them at other banks in Lincolnton. The crimes happened during September and October, 2015 then the case was reported to Lincolnton Police Department in mid October.

The total value of the checks were $900.00.

After Hoyle was arrested Cleveland County deputies took him to the Cleveland-Lincoln County line where they transferred Hoyle to Lincolnton Police Department.

He was placed in the Lincoln County Jail with a secured bond of $10,000.00. His first court appearance is Friday, February 26th.

Hoyle has prior convictions in Cleveland County for felony larceny of a firearm, felony attempt of breaking and entering, possession of drug paraphernalia, and conversion.
