Daycare Worker Accused of Sex Crimes Against Kids
FORT MILL, SC — A daycare worker is accused of sex crimes involving some of the children he was supposed to be caring for.
Steven Gentry bonded out of jail, but he won’t be back around those children.
WCCB Charlotte has requested reports from the Department of Social Services to find out what it learned during the investigating into the Smart Kids Child Development Center and Gentry.
Deputies accuse Gentry of inappropriately touching two eight-year-old boys at the day care where he worked.
People at Gentry’s home sped off when WCCB Charlotte showed up to hear his side.
Gentry did not answer the door.
He turned himself in to the York Country Sheriff’s Office Wednesday.
The director of Smart Kids on Maxwell Mills Rd. says he notified parents of the accusations last month.
That’s when he says someone told him gentry inappropriately touched the boys.
He says he notified DSS and Gentry hasn’t worked there since.
Those who worked beside Gentry had no comment about the accusations.
The day care says Gentry doesn’t have a criminal history.
Parents either had no comment Thursday or say they still support the daycare.
“I feel good I’m confident with this place,” said Alyssa Flowe. “I mean, my son has been here and he’s doing very well here, and they’re doing really great with him.”
