Greenpeace Holds Uptown Protest Against Duke Energy

CHARLOTTE, NC– Protesters held a mock wedding outside Duke Energy on Church Street today. Demonstrators dressed as Governor Pat McCrory and Duke CEO Lynn Good.

The activists say the company is taking too long cleaning coal ash from its 14 North Carolina coal facilities.

“We respect people’s free speech and passion, but the bottom line is the environments gotten better from Duke’s actions. Our carbon dioxide emissions are down significantly.” said Duke Energy Spokesman Tom Williams.

“People are sick of literally and tired of Duke Energy’s pollution and McCrory’s efforts to cover un, not clean up coal ash.” said Geenpeace activist Monica Embry

Cameras were not allowed inside, where several people were escorted out for interrupting the meeting.
