CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Greg Olsen and the Carolina Panthers made a Cornelius boy’s wish come true today.
Parker Cowherd is a seven-year-old battling a rare brain tumor. His dream was to play football with the Carolina Panthers, and on Tuesday he received the opportunity of his young lifetime via the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
Around 8 a.m. Parker’s parents, Jon and Allison, and his brother Owen, who was also his agent for the day, arrived at the Panthers’ facility where Parker signed his contract and got ready for practice.
“Parker’s signing bonus was a big basket full of candy,” Allison said. “He was excited about that.”
Parker practiced with Olsen and the tight end position group. He says Olsen, Cam Newton, and Luke Kuechly are his favorite players.
“He had the helmet,” Olsen said. “I said, ‘Do you want me to carry it?’ He said no, I got it.
“I said alright, man. I wish somebody’d carry my helmet.”
Parker also hit the weight room and had lunch with the guys to complete his day.
