Lake Wylie Drowning Victim Identified
UPDATE: Officials have located the missing man and divers are in the process of recovering his body. The man has been identified as Conroy Oliver, 30, of Charlotte.
LAKE WYLIE, SC — The search will resume Thursday morning for the body of a men who fell overboard on Lake Wylie Wednesday afternoon.
Crews scanned the lake for any objects for hours.
Fire fighters say the victim is a 30-year-old man. They say he was on the boat with family and friends when he fell overboard.
Family stayed out on the lake to help rescuers pinpoint where he fell into the water.
York County Fire Department and Steele Creek Volunteer Fire Department called in Charlotte Fire Department to assist with search and recovery efforts.
“30-year-old male victim that was seen going over the side of a boat. At this time, we have some of his family members and friends stated to us that he went over the side,” said Capt. Dennis Gist. “I don’t have that much information at this time as to how it happened, or what they were doing prior to. I don’t have any of that information.”
The lake is as deep as 240 feet at some points. Crews won’t dive in the water until a scanner locates an object.
