DOT Secretary Says Canceling I-77 Contract Would Cost $300 Million

RALEIGH, N.C. —  North Carolina Secretary of Transportation Nicholas Tennyson estimates that the cost of cancelling the current contract to expand I-77 would cost the state nearly $800 million.

i-77In a letter to the Senate Transportation Committee, Tennyson voices the Department of Transportation’s reservations about ending the contract with Cintra, the company currently developing the project.

Tennyson goes on to say that the state would owe Cintra $302 million to break the contract, and would need $500 million in additional funding to complete the project.
