Lincoln County Firefighter Dies While On Duty

LINCOLN CO., N.C. – A local firefighter has died, after experiencing what is being described as a medical emergency while exercising on-duty.

Lincoln Co. Emergency Management officials say Firefighter Joshua Warren was exercising at East Lincoln Middle School Thursday morning while on duty for the Alexis Fire Department. Emergency responders were called around 11AM and worked to keep Warren alive. He was taken to CHS-Lincoln Medical Center, where he died in the emergency room.

Warren was 34 years old and leaves behind a wife and two small children. He was an active member of East Lincoln Fire Department since 2013. He worked part-time as a firefighter for both the Alexis Fire Dept. and Lucia Riverbend Fire Department. Firefighter Warren is described as a “pivotal part” of the departments he served.

Officials say there is no additional information available at this time, and that a full investigation will take place.  They say the process will be long and very thorough.
