Charlotte, NCDOT Partner to Improve Sugar Creek Traffic
CHARLOTTE, NC — Too many cars, trains and people coming together. NCDOT and the city of Charlotte are partnering with other transportation agencies to improve safety and mobility on Sugar Creek Road.
The Sugar Creek Road overpass will eliminate the risk of train-vehicle collisions and reduce traffic delays in the area. The rail corridor currently sees more than 35 trains per day.
“Having a great separation here, and being able to fully separate the motorists and the pedestrians from the railroad is going to be very important in the coming years as we look to grow and make our transportation system more efficient,” said NCDOT Rail Division Director Paul Worley.
NCDOT is building 13 bridges over or under railroad tracks as part of the Piedmont Improvement Program, which will modernize the state’s rail system.
