Wilson’s World: The First Day of School at Lake Wylie Elementary
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – When the school year ended this past June, Wilson joined the excited kids at Lake Wylie Elementary as they started their summer vacays. This morning he felt it only natural to head back out to welcome these kids back to school at Lake Wyle for the new school year. The question was, who was more happy for school to start back?…..the kids or the parents?
On the last day of school this year Wilson talked with Gabrielle and her sister, Ellie. This morning he met up with the two young ladies again to find out what they did over the summer. Today is Gabrielle’s first day of 2nd grade and Ellie’s first day in 6th grade. Wilson talked to each girl about what their plans are for the coming school year.
Not only did he take the time to talk with teachers about what they hope to accomplish this year, but also with some of the volunteers in the community who work with the school. Pastor Talbot Davis of Good Shepherd Church joined Wilson to talk about their book donations and their work with Lake Wylie Elementary as part of the North Star Reading Partners Initiative. Volunteers go into the school to mentor students and help them with their reading.
