CHARLOTTE, NC – 7-year-old Noah Bertrand in in the hospital, recovering from surgery, after his parents say he was attacked by three pit bulls Friday afternoon.

His family says he suffered lacerations to his forehead and skull.

They say the three dogs came out of nowhere as the boy was walking home from his school bus stop in Madison Park to meet his Mom Friday afternoon.

They had gotten near their home on Rome Court when the dogs approached.

The boy’s mom Liz was bitten too.

“I’m still shaking. Scariest thing that I’ve even seen in my life,” explains neighbor Chung Winston.

She and her neighbors ran out to help when they heard screaming. Winston was able to scare the dogs off with a broom.

“(The) little boy was bleeding, badly,” explains neighbor Sandy Stumpf.

Stumpf lives across the street from the family and is just hoping Noah and his mom recover quickly.

“She is precious. And that little boy is so sweet,” Stumpf says.

Richard Kinkel runs in the neighborhood often and says he can’t imagine why the dogs were loose in this neighborhood. Like others, he’s glad they were caught.

“When the animal control people told me this morning that they rounded up three dogs that fit the description, that was a relief,” Kinkel says.

WCCB Charlotte has reached out to CMPD Animal Care and Control to see if they’ve identified who the dogs belong to and if the owners will face any charges.
