Charlotte, NC — The Mecklenburg County Board of Elections is preparing for a large voter turnout this election.
Director Michael Dickerson says he leased 150 new voting machines to keep up with population growth.
He tells WCCB Charlotte he did not buy the machines because in two years the state will require him to replace all machines with newer equipment.
In August, the Board of Elections made the controversial decision to cut the number of hours you have to early vote.

The state did not approve that vote.
Due to the popularity of this Presidential election and population growth, it added more hours to the process compared to the last Presidential election.
Early voting begins Oct. 20. To see a list of voting locations and times, click here.
