Scott Family Attorney’s Speak Out Following The Release Of The Final CMPD Videos
CHARLOTTE, NC — CMPD released the remaining dash and body cam video from the fatal shooting of Keith Scott, but they have yet to comment on the video.
It’s more pieces to the full picture of Keith Scott’s death, but doesn’t show evidence of him with a gun. The Scott family wanted the public to see the video for transparency and to show the reality of police decisions to shoot.
The full video is too graphic to show on television but can be seen here.
In the video officers are seen applying pressure to Scott’s bullet wounds after he was shot by Officer Brent Vinson.
Scott’s family attorneys spoke to the media after viewing the video with Scott’s wife.
“You see a human being, a father, a husband lose his life,” said Attorney Justin Bamberg, “and that’s hard to watch, but that is the reality of the situation.”
During parts of the video officers refer to the gun CMPD says Scott was holding before the officer shot him, but the remaining video released today still does not make it clear.
Attorney Scott Monnett asked during the news conference, “Why don’t we have the video to answer these questions, and with five officers on the scene why do you only have one officer who activated his camera?”
Video released last week shows Scott get out of his vehicle and back away from officers, something Monnett says shows no aggressive movement towards officers.
Attorney’s say that if Scott did have a gun as CCMPD has stated, they should have given more detailed commands like “put the gun on the dashboard where we can see it” and “open your door slowly and come out with your hands up.”
The family maintains that the shooting of Keith Scott was not justified.
