Wilson’s World: Charlotte Comes Together Over Art at the Hyatt House
Charlotte's recent civil tension creates artistic and creative ways to bring the city together and show that we have heart.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Recently the scene in Uptown Charlotte was one of turmoil and tension with riots and looting. But in the aftermath, we find that Charlotte has heart. This morning, Wilson was at Hyatt House where the windows and doors that were broken and busted have turned into artistic unity.
After the windows were smashed at the hotel, boards went up to cover them. Matt Allen, the General Manager at Hyatt House then posted a message on social media inviting artists across Charlotte to create artwork on the blank panels outside on the hotel. After the artistic community became involved, the Charlotte Art League became involved.
Wilson talked with some of the artists who came together to create pieces that show the beauty and unity of the Charlotte community. Nine year old Leila was one of the younger artists that came together to create the artwork.
Those pieces are now being removed from the Hyatt House and are going to be available to view and to purchase through the Charlotte Art League. Proceeds from the purchases of the pieces will go to the charity of choice of the artist. Find out when you can view the artwork and purchase a piece connect with the Charlotte Art League at their website charlotteartleague.org.
