108-Year-Old Fan Dies After Cubs Win World Series

Northbrook, I.L. — Mabel Ball, the 108-year-old Cubs fan, died Tuesday at a nursing home in Northbrook Illinois.

She was born in 1908, two moths before the Cubs defeated the Detroit Tigers to win the World Series.

Her son, Rich, confirmed her passing with the Chicago tribune saying, “The cruel irony, the almost unbelievable irony, is that the person who waits and waits and waits, after it happens, says, ‘I’ve done what I’ve got to do, and I’m out of here,'” he said. “It ain’t funny, but it’s funny.”

Ball died of an apparent heart attack, but her son doesn’t think the interviews and attention she received had anything to do with her death stating, “she seemed fine.”

Always a Cubs fan, Ball only attended one game, on her 90th birthday.

Rich Ball said his mother died “a happy woman”,  which makes us all a little happier too.
