CONCORD, N.C. — Salisbury soft drink maker, Cheerwine, has reportedly bought, Concord based, Sun Drop Bottling Company.
Founded in 1917, Cheerwine has been a family owned business for nearly 100 years. Sun Drop was founded by Bill and Margaret King in Concord in 1954.
According to reports, 11 people are being laid off. Some employees have moved to Cheerwine already, and others will be given the opportunity to apply for positions as well.
As part of the buyout, Sun Drop will no longer distribute in Cabarrus, Iredell, Rowan, and Stanly Counties. The soda will now be distributed by Cheerwine with a yellow bottle cap rather than the traditional white or green.
