Police: Man Dies After Being Tased
BADIN, N.C. — Police say a man died after an officer used a taser in an attempt to subdue him after a physical altercation in Badin.
Investigators say Marlon Lewis called police asking for help. He reportedly requested police to come to the intersection of Dewey and Mayo Street.
Police say some sort of physical altercation occurred between Lewis and the officer that arrived at the scene.
Two Stanly County deputies rushed to the scene to assist the officer in distress.
The officer and the deputies attempted to subdue Lewis by using a taser but investigators say it had no effect on him. Police were able to get Lewis restrained on the ground with handcuffs but detectives say he went into some type of distress or cardiac arrest.
Lewis was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics.
The SBI is investigating. The Badin officer has been placed on paid administrative leave.
