CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Retail stalwart Macy’s plans to close 100 stores across the country, including the location at the Carolina Place Mall in Pineville.
Citing changing customer behavior and a poor holiday season, Macy’s will eliminate more than 10,000 jobs. Β Some employees will be offered jobs at other locations. Β The changes are expected to save $550 million annually.
Macy’s has announced the closing of 68 locations to date.
The store at the Carolina Place Mall, which is over 150,000 square feet, employs 63 people and has been open since 1993. Β No other local stores are among those closing so far.
