CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man who was charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving, following an accident that injured five people in southeast Charlotte early Sunday morning, has died.
CMPD says at about 2:00 a.m. Sunday morning , Mario Luke Charles Fusco was driving a Hyundai Equus at a high rate of speed on Johnson Road near Ballantyne, when he rear ended a Chevrolet Trailblazer being driven by Kelly Genevieve Hildreth.
Reports indicate Hildreth’s Chevrolet ran off the road before hitting a tree and rolling over on its roof. Β Fusco’s Hyundai also hit a tree after spinning and exiting the road.
Medic transported Fusco to Carolinas Medical Center with critical injuries. Β Police say he died from his injuries Monday afternoon. Β Hildreth and her three passengers were transported to CMC with non-life-threatening injuries.
Mario Luke Charles Fusco was facing Driving While Impaired and Reckless Driving charges in the case.
