CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies say a Cleveland County Detention Officer was assaulted by an inmate.
The inmate, 17-year-old Sijay Thompson, is accused of punching an officer in the face, causing several fractures to the officer’s cheek and orbital bone.
Officers used a taser to subdue Thompson, according to a news release. He was not injured during the incident, according to officials. Thompson is being charged with assault on a detention officer.
He is currently in jail on robbery, kidnapping and several other felony charges.
