Autopsy Results Released On Anson County Man Who Died While Being Arrested In October

UPDATE: Officials have released the autopsy results from an Anson County suspect who died while being taken into custody back in October 2016.

According to the report that was released Wednesday, Lamont Perry died from a combination of cocaine use and sickle cell disease, along with physical exertion.

Perry collapsed while being placed under arrest for a probation violation and died, according to officials.

The SBI says they are in the process of submitting their case to the Anson DA to determine whether or not charges will be filed against Officer William Torrence.

UPDATE: Β The SBI says the name of the man who died while being arrested in Anson County is Lamont Darryl Perry.

Detectives say probation and parole Officer William Torrence was attempting to arrest Perry on a probation violation related to an assault on a female charge.

Perry was located at his girlfriend’s residence in Wadesboro but reportedly fled from the residence. Β He was located in a wooded area behind the residence a few minutes later.

Torrence handcuffed Perry when it appeared Perry sustained an injury to his leg, according to a news release. Β Emergency crewsΒ were called to the scene. Β Investigators say Perry was talking but then suddenly became unresponsive and passed away.

There was no indication that a gun or taser was used during the encounter, according to the SBI. Β Officials are now awaiting the autopsy and toxicology results for Perry. Β This is an ongoing investigation.

ANSON COUNTY, N.C. — The SBI is conducting a use of force criminal investigation involving a probation and parole officer and a civilian.

Investigators say probation and parole Officer William Torrence, 23, was attempting to arrest a subject for a probation violation related to an assault charge in Anson County.

Officials say the subject passed away during the arrest encounter with Torrence. Β Several Wadesboro Police officers were on the scene and witnessed the encounter after the arrest.

The name of the subject has not been released at this time. Β The cause of death is pending an autopsy and police say no weapon was located on the scene.

Torrence has been placed on administrative duty pending the outcome of an internal investigation of the incident. Β That is standard procedure.
