Governor Cooper: “Clock is Ticking” to Repeal HB2.
SHELBY, NC – Governor Roy Cooper sat right next to Republican House Speaker Tim Moore in Shelby Wednesday, as he announced 180 new jobs at Clearwater Paper.
Cooper and Moore traveled to the event together.
And HB2?
“Yes, we did discuss it,” Cooper says.
The Governor says negotiations continue between Republicans and Democrats.
He thinks Moore and Republican leaders want to do something about the controversial law. The challenge is getting rank and file Republicans to go along.
“They would not have called that special session in December had they not wanted to fix the House Bill 2 problem,” Cooper says.
Now the fear is the state could suffer more economic losses.
The NCAA is reviewing bids for where it will hold championship events for the next six years.
Also on the Governor’s radar is the 2019 NBA All-Star Game.
“This is an issue that cries out for a bi-partisan solution. There are enough Republicans and Democrats together to repeal House Bill 2,” Cooper says.
